A labyrinth in which to get lost several times while finding your way to the next temple, or whatever your destination will be -- probably a temple... or a market, or a shopping mall, or the zoo, or something created, used, or blessed by the omni present king -- apparently very well liked.
I was there with my favorite person and that was more than enough to enjoy it despite the chaos and the lack of exceedingly interesting attractions.
We saw several impressive temples; a zoo made largely by putting fences around where the animals were already; the disappointing red light district; an incredibly big mall; a nice city park whose highlight is the huge lizards which we had seen also roaming free around the zoo; the markets in Chinatown and in Silom.
We have eaten really well both when going to touristy restaurants, small family businesses or to the omni present booths that cater exclusively to locals selling who-knows-what inside soups or with noodles. One good recommendation from the guide was a small shop serving all vegetarian fare, you order by pointing at the food -- all really good stuff. It went a bit worse when, at one of the stalls on the road, just after ordering, a rat crossed the distance between the cart where the food gets cooked and the sewers grid nearby -- but the food was delicious.

The means of transportation are quite fascinating as in a few days we saw or used so diverse ones: taxi, tuk tuk (tricycle taxi), moto taxi, ferry in the main river, fast and lean bus boats in the canals, water taxis, bus with fan, bus with airco, minivan, train, metro, skytrain (trains elevated at 10-30m).
Today I left the back-packers area after two days of intense water fighting due to the Thai New Year celebration -- Shanyue missed most of it and I'm glad I decided to leave this morning, destination Phetchaburi.
